The Neurotrauma Outreach Program seeks to address challenges and support wellness for survivors of recent traumatic brain injury.

Our Mission

The mission of the NTOP program is to expand services and provide early intervention for Zuckerberg San Francisco General patients recovering from a recent Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

What We Do

The Neurotrauma Outreach Program (NTOP) offers comprehensive psychosocial evaluation, treatment, support and follow-up care for individuals who have had a concussion or a more severe traumatic brain injury. We are a collaboration between Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital’s (ZSFG) Division of Neurosurgery, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences’ Neuropsychology service, and the UCSF Trauma Recovery Center (TRC).  In addition to providing specialized, trauma-focused services to survivors of TBI, we provide training and consultation to providers working with survivors of TBI.

How We Help

TBI patients may be at greater risk for problems such as unemployment, homelessness, substance use, depression, PTSD, anxiety, and other mental health issues after discharge from ZSFG.  NTOP providers work closely with an interdisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, nurses, neuropsychologists, rehabilitation specialists, and psychiatrists to improve care and follow-up services for TBI patients.
